October 17 — When the King Pins Are Removed Daniel 2:21

“He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings.”

Daniel 2:21 Sound Devotional

Reflection

There are moments in life when the “king pins” are removed—the leaders we relied on, the structures that felt immovable, the systems that held everything steady. A boss resigns. A spiritual mentor passes on. A long-standing routine collapses. A government shifts. A family dynamic changes. What once seemed fixed suddenly falls.

When king pins are removed, instability often follows. In bowling, the kingpin stands at the center; once it falls, the rest quickly scatter. In life, certain people or positions seem to hold everything together. But Scripture reminds us that no earthly kingpin is ultimate. God alone holds that place.

Throughout the Bible, God allowed kings to rise and fall—Saul, David, Nebuchadnezzar. Each removal revealed a deeper truth: human authority is temporary, but God’s reign is eternal. When something central in our lives is shaken, it exposes where our true security rests.

Sometimes God removes king pins to:

• Refocus our trust—from people to Him.• Realign our priorities—from comfort to calling.• Reveal new leadership—in others, or even in ourselves.• Remind us that He alone is unshakable.

It is natural to grieve change. Even righteous transitions can feel unsettling. But removal is not abandonment. When God allows a central figure or structure to fall, He is not losing control—He is exercising it.

If you are living through a season where a king pin has been removed, ask yourself:

Where was I placing my ultimate trust? What might God be inviting me to step into now? How is He showing Himself faithful in this transition?

The same God who removes kings also raises them up. He closes chapters, but He authors the next one. His throne is never vacant.

Prayer

Father, when the things we depended on are removed, steady our hearts. Help us not to panic when structures shift or leaders change. Teach us to trust in Your unchanging rule. If You are clearing space for something new, give us courage to walk into it. You are our true King, our firm foundation.

In Your Name we pray, Lord Jesus, Amen.
