"I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him ."

Daniel 7:13 Sound Devotional

Reflection

He is called the Son of Man not because He is small, but because He chose nearness. The title speaks of dust and divinity meeting—eternity wrapped in flesh, glory clothed in humility.

No angel approaches the throne like this. No prophet stands like this. Only the Son of Man is invited near. “He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him.” The throne that consumes rivals welcomes Him. The fire that judges evil crowns Him with authority. This is not rebellion; this is inheritance.

“Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him”(Daniel 7:14). The Son of Man does not seize power—He receives it. His kingdom is not built by force, but by obedience, by surrender, by a cross before a crown. “Although He was a Son, He learned obedience through what He suffered”(Hebrews 5:8). What He rules, He first redeemed.

Jesus chose this title for Himself more than any other. “The Son of Man must suffer many things… and be killed, and after three days rise again” (Mark 8:31). The Son of Man knows hunger. He knows rejection. He knows betrayal, blood, and death. He does not rule from a distance; He reigns as One who has walked among us. “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses” (Hebrews 4:15).

The same Son of Man who was pierced now stands as Judge. “The Father… has given Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man” (John 5:27). Judgment is placed in the hands that were nailed. This is mercy’s triumph: the One who judges is the One who died for the judged.

“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory” (Mark 13:26). He will return not as a servant, but as King. Yet He will still be called the Son of Man—forever identifying with the redeemed. He comes with clouds, with angels, with glory—but He comes for people.

The Son of Man is forming a people who look like Him. “When He appears, we shall be like Him” (1 John 3:2). Humble, yet bold. Surrendered, yet authoritative. Willing to suffer, yet destined to reign. The kingdom He received, He now shares.
