"I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire."

Daniel 7:9 Sound Devotional

Reflection

Before time learned how to move, He was.

Before mountains took shape, before oceans learned their boundaries, before light knew how to separate itself from darkness, the Ancient of Days was enthroned. He is not old in weakness; He is ancient in authority. Age has not diminished Him. History has not tired Him. Empires have risen and fallen beneath His gaze, yet He remains unchanged.

The Ancient of Days does not react—He rules. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God” (Psalm 90:2). When chaos appears new to us, it is already familiar to Him. What feels unprecedented to humanity has already passed beneath His throne. He carries the wisdom of eternity without strain, the memory of creation without burden, and the authority of forever without fear.

Daniel saw fire in His throne—not to destroy the righteous, but to purify judgment. “Our God is a consuming fire”(Hebrews 12:29). The fire of the Ancient of Days burns away false authority, counterfeit power, and corrupted rule. Nothing unjust survives long in His presence. His fire is not frantic; it is measured. It waits until the appointed time, and then it moves with finality.

“The court was seated, and the books were opened” (Daniel 7:10). This is not chaos—this is order. The Ancient of Days presides over a court where truth is recorded, motives are weighed, and hidden things are revealed. No injustice escapes His memory, and no faithfulness goes unseen. What was whispered in secret is fully known, and what was endured quietly is honored openly.

Daniel’s vision does not end with fire; it ends with inheritance. “Then the sovereignty, power, and greatness of all the kingdoms under heaven will be handed over to the holy people of the Most High” (Daniel 7:27). The Ancient of Days is not threatened by time—He uses it. He allows seasons to pass until hearts are revealed. He permits shaking until what remains can be trusted. Then He transfers authority, not to the proud, but to the faithful.

The Son of Man stands before Him. “To Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him” (Daniel 7:14). The Ancient of Days and the Son are not divided. The eternal Father entrusts all rule to the eternal Son. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). The Ancient of Days has a face—and His name is Jesus.

When the world feels unstable, when systems shake, and when power shifts suddenly, lift your eyes. The throne has not moved. “The LORD sits enthroned forever; He has established His throne for judgment” (Psalm 9:7). You are not living in uncertain times—you are living in appointed ones.

Prayer

Ancient of Days, O Lord, anchor our hearts in what does not change. When
nations rage and systems fail, remind us Great Father that Your throne still burns
with holy fire. Align all that we are with eternity. Thank You Father, for teaching
us to walk humbly before the One who was, who is, and who is to come.

In Jesus Name Amen.
