"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."

John 1:5 Sound Devotional

Reflection

Darkness cannot defeat light; it can only linger where light is withheld. Darkness does not always come roaring. Sometimes it crawls. Sometimes it waits. Sometimes it stands only because it has been allowed to stand. Scripture reminds us that darkness has no power of its own—only permission, only ground, only legs it did not create.

Darkness stands on agreements. It stands on fear left unchallenged, lies left unexposed, sin left unconfessed, and trauma left unhealed. “Nor give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:27, NKJV). The enemy does not need strength when he has a foothold, and he does not need authority when he has permission. Darkness walks because someone, somewhere, believed a lie.

To cut the legs off darkness is not to wrestle it by shouting, but to starve it of standing. “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). Truth cuts the legs off lies. Repentance cuts the legs off accusation. Forgiveness cuts the legs off torment. Obedience cuts the legs off deception. When truth enters a place, darkness collapses—not because it is attacked, but because it cannot stand.

Jesus Himself is the pattern of victory. At the cross, He did not chase demons; He removed their authority. “Having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross”(Colossians 2:15). The enemy was not destroyed by force—he was disarmed. Disarmed means no leverage, no accusation, and no legal claim. Darkness was left standing on nothing.

Cutting the legs off darkness is a decision before it is a deliverance. It looks like turning on the light where shame hid, saying no where compromise lived, speaking Scripture where fear whispered, and standing still when the enemy expected retreat. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Notice the order: submission removes the legs; resistance sends darkness running.

Darkness will always try to return to old ground. “When an unclean spirit goes out of a person… it says, ‘I will return to my house’” (Matthew 12:43–45). This is why freedom must be filled, not merely fought for. “Be filled with the Spirit”(Ephesians 5:18). Light is not passive—it occupies.

In the name of Jesus, every lie loses its footing, every fear loses its voice, and every hidden place is flooded with light. What once stood against me now collapses beneath truth. I do not fight darkness; I turn on the light. “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD rises upon you” (Isaiah 60:1).

Prayer

O Father, thank You for showing us where darkness has been standing on
borrowed ground. We renounce every agreement that is not from You. we choose
truth. We choose light. And we declare that what has no legs will no longer stand.

In Mighty Jesus’ name
