September 29 — “Why We Are Commanded to Pray for Israel” Psalm 122:6
“Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
‘May they prosper who love you.’”
Psalm 122:6 Sound Devotional
Reflection
Prayer for Israel is not a political statement—it is a biblical command rooted in covenant, compassion, and God’s redemptive plan for the earth. When Scripture calls us to pray for Israel, it is inviting us to partner with heaven’s purposes, not merely to observe history from a distance.
Israel is the land where God placed His name, the people through whom He revealed His Word, and the nation through which the Messiah entered the world. To pray for Israel is to honor the pathways God chose to bless all nations. Jerusalem is more than a city; it is a spiritual epicenter where heaven and earth intersect.
We are commanded to pray because Israel remains under relentless spiritual and natural pressure. Zechariah calls Jerusalem a “cup of trembling” and a “heavy stone” to the nations. Intercession becomes a shield—calling on the Lord to release peace where conflict concentrates and wisdom where chaos threatens.
Prayer for Israel also guards the Church. Scripture says Gentile believers are grafted into Israel’s olive tree. When we pray for Israel, we stay aligned with the root that supports us. Intercession keeps us from arrogance, forgetfulness, or detachment from God’s covenant faithfulness.
Praying for Israel accelerates restoration. God promises to pour out a Spirit of grace and supplication on the house of David. Prayer prepares hearts—for repentance, revelation, and reconciliation. What begins in intercession culminates in salvation and joy for the nations.
To pray for Israel is to pray for God’s promises to stand. It is to declare that covenant outlives conflict, mercy triumphs over hatred, and the purposes of God will not fail. When we pray, we are not choosing sides—we are choosing alignment.
Prayer
Father, teach us to pray according to Your heart. We lift Israel and Jerusalem before You. Release peace, protection, and revelation. Pour out the Spirit of grace and supplication, and let Your promises be fulfilled in Your perfect time. In Jesus’ name, amen
