September 18— Baptism What is it? Romans 6:3
“Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?”
Romans 6:3 Sound Devotional
Reflection
Baptism is heaven’s appointed crossing place. It is where obedience meets surrender and identity is forever marked. When a believer enters the waters, they are not performing a ritual—they are responding to a summons. The Spirit calls the old life to the surface so it can be laid down, and calls the new life forth to rise in power.
To be baptized is to be immersed into Christ. You are not merely washed; you are joined. Joined to His death, where sin’s authority was broken. Joined to His burial, where the old nature lost its claim. Joined to His resurrection, where new life breathes and authority is restored.
Prophetically, baptism is a line drawn in the spirit. It announces to heaven, earth, and hell that your allegiance has changed. What once had legal access no longer does. The waters become a witness: this one has crossed over. The enemy may remember your history, but baptism marks the moment when your history no longer defines your future.
Baptism also speaks to the conscience. The waters do not carry power on their own, but obedience releases cleansing. Shame is silenced. Guilt loses its voice. The soul aligns with the truth the spirit already knows—you are forgiven, you are His, and you are free.
In Scripture, water always precedes new beginnings. Israel passed through the Red Sea before learning how to walk free. Jesus stepped into the Jordan before the Spirit descended and His ministry began. In the same way, baptism prepares the believer to walk in clarity, authority, and intimacy with the Holy Spirit.
This is not the end of a journey—it is the threshold. You go down surrendered. You come up commissioned. The waters do not make you perfect, but they make your decision public and irreversible.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of baptism. We receive it as a holy crossing, a mark of obedience, and a declaration of allegiance to Christ. Let every old bond be broken, every voice of accusation silenced, and every new beginning sealed by Your Spirit. We rise to walk in newness of life, in Jesus’ name, amen.
