October 20 — The Danger of Familiar Glory 2 Samuel 6:6–7

“Then Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it… And the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah.”

2 Samuel 6:6–7 Sound Devotional

Reflection

The Ark had been sitting in the house of Abinadab for years. It was not new to Uzzah. He grew up around it. He lived beside it. He likely walked past it daily. And that is the danger.

Familiarity can erode reverence. What was once awe-inspiring can become ordinary. What once caused trembling can become routine. What once provoked worship can become background furniture.

The Ark represented the manifest presence—the Glory. It was holy, untouchable, set apart. But proximity without consecration produces casualness.

Uzzah did not wake up intending dishonor. His hand moved instinctively. The oxen stumbled. The cart shook. He reacted.

But heaven does not measure instinct—it measures obedience. Some of the greatest spiritual danger is not rebellion—it is familiarity.

You can: Preach around glory and stop trembling. Sing about His name and stop bowing. Speak of holy things with an unguarded heart.

The assumption beneath Uzzah’s hand was subtle: “My touch is safer than the ground.”

But the earth obeys Him. Dust was formed by Him. Creation knows its Creator. The problem was not the dirt—it was unauthorized handling.

Beloved, guard your awe.

If you no longer tremble, ask Him to restore holy fear. If worship feels casual, ask Him to reintroduce wonder. If sacred things feel ordinary, ask Him to cleanse your perception.

Glory is not common.

And when we treat it as common, correction comes—not because He is cruel, but because He is holy.

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven, restore our awe. Guard us, Lord, from casualness in Your presence. In Your mercy do not allow familiarity to rob us of reverence. Teach us to carry holy things with holy fear.

Great Yahweh, in the Name of Yeshua we pray.
