“And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”

Matthew 6:13         Sound Devotional

Reflection

When Jesus Christ taught us to pray these words, He was not revealing a Father who entices His children into sin. Scripture is clear: “God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He     Himself tempt anyone.” (James 1:13)

So what are we praying?

We are praying for guidance, not suspicion. Protection, not accusation. Alignment, not avoidance of responsibility.

The Greek word translated “temptation” (peirasmos) can also mean testing or trial. The Father does not tempt—but He does lead. And sometimes He leads us through wilderness places where our hearts are revealed.

Even Jesus was “led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil” (Matthew 4:1). The Spirit led. The devil tempted. The Father’s intention was formation; the enemy’s intention was distortion.

When we pray, “Lead us not into temptation,” we are declaring:

Father, guide my steps away from traps. Do not let me wander into what will overwhelm me. Order my path where my flesh would choose poorly. Guard me from tests that would crush rather than refine.

This is not fear—it is humility.

It is the cry of a heart that knows its own weakness. It says,

“I trust Your leadership more than my impulses.”

This prayer is vital in this hour. There are subtle temptations:

To compromise truth for comfort. To grasp at provision outside of trust.

To respond in offense instead of obedience. To accelerate what God is maturing slowly.

The Father does not dangle sin before you. But He will allow testing that strengthens you. Gold is refined in fire, yet the fire is not the enemy—the

When you pray this line, you are asking for: impurity is.

When you pray this line, you are asking for:

• Discernment before decision.

• Grace before pressure.

• Exit routes before entrapment.

• Deliverance from the evil one’s schemes.

You are not praying to avoid growth. You are praying to avoid unnecessary failure.

The same Father who leads you beside still waters (Psalm 23) knows how to shepherd you around cliffs. Trust His hand.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are good and that You do not tempt us with evil but You lead us by Your Spirit and guard our steps. O Father, expose every hidden snare before we step into it. Strengthen us in testing, deliver us from the evil one, and align our desires with Your will. We trust Your leadership

completely.

In the name of the King of Kings we pray.
