August 17th — How Great Is That Darkness: Sound Devotional, Matthew 6:22–23

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.

If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

Matthew 6:22–23  Sound Devotional

Reflection

Jesus is not speaking here about eyesight, but about sightlines—what governs perception, desire, and discernment. The eye is the gate of interpretation. Whatever you allow to define reality will determine whether light or darkness fills your inner world.

This is a warning for an age saturated with information but starving for illumination. Darkness is no longer only the absence of truth; it is truth distorted. When the eye is filled with darkness, deception feels normal, compromise feels reasonable, and captivity feels justified. This is the most dangerous form of darkness—when people believe they see clearly while walking blindly.

“How great is that darkness” speaks to a depth that cannot be corrected by more knowledge, louder voices, or stronger opinions. It requires repentance of perception. God is not merely correcting behavior in this hour; He is recalibrating vision. What you look at repeatedly becomes what you believe instinctively. What you agree with shapes what you carry.

The Lord is exposing misaligned sight—eyes trained on fear, outrage, gain, offense, or self-preservation rather than truth and righteousness. When the eye is healed, the whole body follows. When perspective is restored, direction returns. Deliverance begins when we let God touch the eye.

This is also a promise. If darkness can fill a person so completely, then light—true light—can do the same. One encounter with Jesus can clear years of dim vision. He is the Light of the world, and when He enters the eye of the heart, confusion breaks and clarity reigns.

Prayer

Thank You Lord, for cleansing the eyes of our hearts. Exposing every false light and healing every distorted lens. Thank You o thank You, for filling us again with Your truth, Your purity, and Your perspective, that our whole being may be full of light. We choose Your sight over our own. Jesus in Your name, we pray.

Yes! Open the eyes of my heart LORD! The timing of these devotions couldn't be any more precise for those in Northwest Indiana, who are facing natural Darkness not just spiritual Darkness. I pray Lord that you cause people to see the spiritual darkness of their eyes of their hearts while they struggle to regain natural power, let them be filled with holy spirit Power. In the name of your beloved Son Yeshua.
